Laura Brousseau – member since 2012.
Hi I’m Laura! A mother, wife, sister, daughter, niece and a true friend. I am a proud member of the Energy Exchange team and celebrated my 4th year with Moksha Yoga on July 3rd! I take a very gentle approach to my practice trying to stay always aware of what my body needs on my mat. I have also been known to hold a hand or two in savasana.
Yoga isn’t my only passion, as I love running with my border collie and have been exploring the world of fitness over this past year. My life isn’t only about working out though. I am an extremely proud Social Worker working for Bethesda: an agency that works with those with developmental disabilities and I specialize in working with individuals with Autism. This is a true passion of mine – it fills my heart in a way nothing else can. I am blessed to say that I love my job.
Finally, I am a mother to a 4 year old little red headed man that makes the world brighter each day. You may see him around the studio from time to time! My life is busy, hectic and some days hard but I have never been happier and more proud of myself as I am today.
Q: How long have you been practicing?
A: Four years!
Q: Who or what inspired you to start?
A: I was looking to live a healthier life for myself and my son.
Q: What has challenged you to maintain your practice?
A: LIFE. There will always be more work to do, family and friends to see and help, and there are only so many hours in a day.
Q: Why have you continued to make MYStC a part of your life?
A: It’s somewhere I go just for me, with my job and family I give so much of myself each day that MYStC has been my safe haven that I get to have all to myself. Even with a full hot room, I focus only on myself for that hour or two.
Q: Which of the Seven Pillars of Moksha Yoga speaks especially strongly to you? Why?
A: It’s a tie between Be Healthy and Community Support. If I’m not healthy I don’t have the energy to support, so the two really go hand in hand for me.
Q: What is it that you enjoy the most about the physical yoga practice?
A: I enjoy a challenge and some poses challenge me more than others. Then, a new day comes and a different pose will challenge me.
Q: If you met someone today who asked you why they should incorporate yoga into their lives, what would you tell them?
A: I couldn’t even start to name the benefits yoga has brought to my own life and I could only encourage them to try it to see for themselves. Life changing is an understatement.
